Music is Magic (Am I a Poem?)

By Mike Vinopal

In this life,

we can only be subjective.

The one true flaw of the miracle

of the human mind

is that we are limited

by our own perception.

Prisoners of our perspective.

Music is one of those things in life

that makes you feel less alone.

Music soothes and tells you

it’s ok to feel the way you feel

because somebody else did too.

And even if it’s not ok

to feel that way,

just sharing that feeling with someone

gives you comfort,

knowing you’re not the only one

that has gone through this,

that has felt alone.

Music transcends distances between, crossing oceans,

crossing seas.

Music transcends lifespans,

living long

beyond its creator.

Someone who lived 200 years ago

could save the life of someone

they will never know

listening to their music

in the present day

and onward into the future.

That’s why it is so important

to me

on so many levels.

To have it as an outlet.

To use it as a statement.

To reach out to others,

past, present, and future.

To learn about myself.

To learn about the world.

To give momentary solace.

To find refuge,

even just for a moment.

To bring smiles.

To shake hips and tap toes.

Music is magic.

Am I a poem?

I do not know.

It’s hard for me to see,

honestly,

because it’s all poetry

to me.
