Detritus Exasperated Love

By Elizabeth Harper

Detritus exasperated love
too tired to fight about it
get it over and done

Forced to overcome
lying pants fire
don't know her name
or what transpired

I'm a little bit country
I'm a little bit rock 'n roll
I'm a little too old for this shit
I'm a little horny toad covered in mold

Play those records, baby
Chew on some vinyl with your teeth
Don't let it get you down, baby
You can't control plagiarists and thieves

Doctor my eyes are creasing
and coming apart at the seams
they want to turn my brain inside out
they don't know what it all means

Don't remember why you left me
Don't remember why I came over that night
Juniper had me reeling
crawling on my hands and knees
that cold and lonely
hard heart-breaking night

The romance sellers are liars
frumpy plodding doormats for life
Just when you think you've solved the puzzle
You realize you're fucked for the rest of your life
Every year every week every day
in your chest a turning knife

Got to get away from bad poetry
slammers jammers rodeo clowns
pedantic dramatic color-blind
ants in their pants
mirrors in their pockets
drinks in their hands
