• Here’s a new term that must be incorporated into our lexicon: “Momsplaining.”
Momsplaining
/ˈmomˌsplāniNG/
noun INFORMAL
the explanation of something by a woman, typically a mother, and typically to a man such as her husband or boyfriend, in a manner regarded as condescending or patronizing (ironically enough).
SYNONYM: Wifesplaining

• I think my greatest weakness is that when I happen across someone who finds offense in the  most benign and trivial statements or in ideas different from their own, my instinct is to slam on the gas and say the most absurd things I can muster in hopes of causing their mental breakdown. Or at least actually offend them so much that they never want to come over to my house again.

• Chicago elected a black, female, lesbian as its mayor. I hope that the city doesn’t make the same mistake the country did when it elected Barack Obama. That is thinking, “Okay! We did it! Progress won! We don’t have to keep fighting for true equality, accountable authority, and fiscal sustainability.” If we fall into this false sense of self-success, we’ll have another Daley in office in four years talking about making Chicago great again.

• Silence is golden. Alone time is platinum.

• The things that lead to our greatest disappointments are often the same things that take us to our most magnificent victories. Try not to hate yourself too much; there’s good you can do.

• Be cautious around people who mistake the spice of life for flavor.
