I Believe… [Dolezal Was Ahead of the Curve]
…that at some point we need to acknowledge that the act of pulling out your phone to record a stranger, while necessary when confronted by true injustice, is an act of aggression and control on par with pulling out a bat covered in barbed wire.
…that the erection of statues is symbolic as is the destruction of them.
...that if “whiteness” becomes a catch-all for “oppressor,” one avenue to pursue is for white people to start doing what Rachel Dolezal did.
…that structural racism is expecting people to assimilate while at the same time crippling them economically in an effort to prevent assimilation. Systemic racism is believing that any interaction between people is fundamentally about race.
…that with a foreign element waging war on our soil and within our elections, a pandemic that we have botched response to, and race riots in the streets calling for revolution, America has finally reached its adolescent stage as a country. Christ, France has dealt with this sort of thing for hundreds and hundreds of years.
