Notes from the Post-it Wall | The Dumb Blue Line Edition

By David Himmel

• There are good cops out there. But when those good cops don’t stand up against the system that supports bad cops, they become bad cops themselves.

• I recognize that blind rage and across the board disdain for police officers is as bad as any vile racist, but I need time to come down from watching the life leave the face of a scared 13-year-old who did plenty wrong but should not have been shot in the chest and killed for those mistakes.

• Cops are given handcuffs, tasers, and body armor to arrest suspects and bring them in to be prosecuted. They need our benefit of the doubt, too. Do the job right or quit and become a Walmart greeter.

• I am okay with cops shooting people. In fact, I think they should have shot more of those Capitol Insurrectionists. I think that trying to overthrow the government is a, um, capital offense worthy of capital punishment.

• Of course Derek Chauvin didn’t take the stand. Derek Chauvin doesn’t stand for anything. He kneels.

• You’re right, I don’t know what it feels like to be a cop. Except… I am filled with rage and the occasional concern my dick is too small, so maybe I do know what it feels like to be a cop.
