The Worst Mother in the World

By Elizabeth Harper

The Worst Mother in the World

Haunts your dreams
Belittling you
Mocking

Reminding you of your inherent worthlessness
Making you not only want to die
But wish you were never born as well

Pinpricks of derision
Accusations of moral inadequacies
Making you doubt your capacity for compassion

As she shows you no mercy ever
You are wrong and she is right
In her mind alone

In your mind you are lost
Unforgiven, misunderstood
And so very irredeemably alone

You will always be wrong
Alone and lonely
Never able to fit in

Eventually she will be dead
You shall rejoice and be free
But the memories will linger on
