...that public shaming and call outs are a hammer. When your only tool is a hammer every problem looks like a fragile skull to smash in until the shards bite into the brain tissue.

...that the most effective way to push through legislation that benefits the wealthiest and damages the rights of the rest of us is to manufacture controversy that distracts us from it. The fact that we buy it every single time doesn't help us in any way.

…that when I was younger and the internet was new and exciting, the potential for how wonderful it could be to and for the world was an optimistic and idealistic time. It has now become apparent that for all the good it can do for the world in terms of communication and activism, the expansion of online bulletin boards to social media has had the affect of turning everyone I know into raging, self-righteous, sanctimonious assholes. Myself included.

...that among the worst we have to offer is the person who fucked up, offered a non-apology apology, gets trolled for it, and comes back as the person most likely to be offended when someone else fucks up and offers a non-apology apology. Like a former smoker who stands on a corner and hurls insults at smokers. 

...that the unfortunate consequence of social media is that it has made me dislike human beings so much. I'm realizing how toxic it is to know how everyone feels about everything and I'm thinking my wife has it right by not engaging almost at all with these platforms.
