How Democracy Works

by Don Hall

"I have a problem and we all need to solve it."

"Oh yeah? I don't care about your problem."

"Then you are the problem."

"So what?"

"You're evil!"

"OK. Says you."

"So you don't care about my problem?"

"Nope. I have problems of my own."

"I don't care about your problems, either."

"I didn't ask you to care about my problems."

"Well... I don't."

"OK. Let's vote on which problems we all will try to solve."

"Fine!"

Voting commences. One problem is seen to be more important than the other as a majority of people voted to solve it rather than the other one.

"THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED! My problem is now that problem."

"Don't care."

"But that is a Big Problem!"

"Huh? (yawns) Wanna vote again on the new problem?"

"Fine."

Voting once again commences. New problem (the rigged system) is voted as the problem to solve.

"YOU'RE RIGHT! THE SYSTEM IS RIGGED!"

Repeat as necessary.
