Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of December 8, 2024

By David Himmel

• Sometimes, everything sucks. It’s a fleeting thing, but it’s a real feeling. The trick—and it ain’t always easy—is to find the funny in all of it. Then, it doesn’t suck so much. It just kinda blows. It all comes down to perspective.

• Comfort is for consuming. Discomfort is for creating.

• Never say “but” after a joke. “But really… but seriously…” It diminishes your sense of humor, your sense of timing. It acknowledges the joke was funny, but jokes trying to be funny aren’t ever as funny as the joke itself. Be sure. Be confident. Be funny.

• The world is my oyster. But I’m allergic to shellfish.

• Rolls or wrapping paper that aren’t wrapped around solid cardboard tubes are an assault on imagination and childhood playtime.

• The winter always feels warmer when you’re among nature.
