Building an Apartment

By David Himmel

A typical bright morning

With the A/C unit roaring outside my new window.

The apartment is coming together.

A hodgepodge of childish scribbles and posters.

Hand-me-down furniture with a teenager’s baby bite marks sunk in—

A permanent reminder of aging youth.

Got a gut full of hope and uncertainty.

Life is spread out before us

Or at least the day.

Got lots to do.

He’ll sleep in. I’ll be on the move.

Let’s roll.

Gotta push through and seize the call to greatness.
