Notes from the Post-it Wall | Week of September 29, 2024

• There’s this interesting way of neighboring, I’ve found, in Chicago… We all equally ignore and engage each other. It’s like an unspoken vibe we share with each other. “Not today” or “Hi, what’s shaking?”

• Everything is easier without feelings. Like Don Hall wrote, more Spock, less Kirk.

• As kids, we want to be adults so we can do whatever we want. The problem is that as adults, we do whatever we want and that’s why everything loses its joy.

• Conversely, as adults, it feels we have even less opportunity to do whatever we want, which is why everything loses its joy.

• Anger fuels disassociation. But when you’re angry, it’s really hard to let it go. And that’s infuriating.

• My 2-year-old is in this phase where he points to every woman he sees on the street or on TV or in books and says, “Mommy!” He does the same thing with men, exclaiming, “Daddy!” Yesterday, at the grocery store, he picked up a Star magazine with Diddy on the cover, pointed to Diddy and shouted, “Daddy!” My son doesn’t see color, wealth, or crimes against humanity. He sees only gender. To prove this theory, I will show him a photo of Rachel Maddow to see if he says, “Mommy” or “Daddy.”

Who wore it best?

"Daddy!"
