I Believe... [We Are Poised to Lose 2020]

By Don Hall

...that the demand of infallibility and purity will always—always— be met with disappointment. Despite the many identities we cling to, the ultimate identity is human and humans tend to be crap to one another. The only human beings on the planet for all of time wholly pure and blameless are infants, and infants can’t run for office. Also, those talking baby movies creep me the fuck out, even more than clowns.

...that the Progressive slogan for Election 2020 is now officially "Cutting Off Our Noses to Spite Our Faces." The secondary slogan will be "We Don't Care If We Win, We Just Want to Be Right."

...that, if you truly believe Steve Martin's King Tut is a form of cultural appropriation, you have officially taken a true topic of genuine concern in our society and crossed it over to a fucking joke. Soon, no one will remember the legitimate arguments about cultural appropriation and will only remember the dipshits offended by a goofy song parody from the seventies.

...that, if nothing else, the continued support of Roy Moore by any percentage of his constituents proves that all of our posturing and strident shaming online is not going to make the difference in the 2020 election. You can't shame those who refuse to feel it. You can however, try to make a persuasive argument instead of screaming in outrage or, at least, beat them with votes. Or aluminum baseball bats but that generally leads down a darker alley than most of us really want to go. So do the voting thing.

...that justice and revenge aren't the same things. Justice is about balance, revenge is about destruction. Justice is about long term thinking with a thoughtful plan for future repercussions, consequences and fairness. Revenge is a child lashing out to break those who they feel have wronged them. We can do better.
